Full-time, academic year, tenure-track position in the Department of Art and Design beginning September 18, 2006. Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience. A design faculty position with broad teaching duties including such courses as: foundation design, typography, symbology, package design, advertising, corporate identity and branding, editorial design, professional practices and portfolio preparation. Collaboration with other campus departments and entities encouraged.

Other duties will include student advising, curriculum development, committee work, and continued professional and creative development. MFA, MS in graphic design or equivalent degree required; degree must be completed by time of appointment. A minimum of two years full-time college teaching experience preferred. Strong record of recent professional graphic design experience required. Since software instruction is integrated into graphic design classes, a high degree of proficiency in applications appropriate to print and digital media is required.

Candidates abilities should include a strong conceptual base, and be well versed in historical and contemporary issues and personalities in graphic design and have a current knowledge of the state of the profession. The position requires a demonstrated ability to convey creative problem solving methods and the ability to teach both theoretical and practical aspects of graphic design and image making/exploration. Strong communication skills needed to develop and maintain close collaborative working relationships with colleagues, various university entities, committees, and outside professionals.
